The Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC) will once again be hosting a workshop, this time in San diego, CA. TLC are pioneers in the advancement of awareness and research into body focussed repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) such as trichotillomania. They have played a pivotal in our understanding of trichotillomania and other BFRBs and continue to make strides in identifying effective treatment for these conditions. The workshop will take place on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM (PST). This workshop is a fundraiser - any proceeds made after event costs are covered, fund TLC programs and outreach services! But it will also be an invaluable experience for all those attending.
What can I expect?
The workshop is a full day event that provides attendees an opportunity to learn from experts about what treatment approaches are most effective and develop a personalized plan for building recovery from trichotillomania. The day's program will include an overview of BFRBs, current treatment & medication trends, developing self-help resources, and mindfulness and recovery tools. This workshop is open to those with hair pulling, skin picking, nail biting, and/or other BFRBs, parents, partners/spouses/support persons, and treatment providers. Lunch is not provided.
What will be covered?
Overview of BFRBs
Overview of BFRB phenomenology, impact, recent research, etc. This is will include information about the Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) trait and correlation with BFRBs.
Treatment Approaches
An overview of current CBT treatment approaches including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Addiction models, and Emotional Regulation. Information on NAC will also be provided. Dr. Fabi, MD, may also present on how to talk to your doctor.
Creating a self-help plan to support recovery from BFRBs
This session will include how to put together a travel-friendly kit for while you are at school or work. One kit will be made for demonstration purposes and will be given to one random participant.
Roadblocks to Recovery Group Therapy Session
The group will share biggest challenges and most helpful successes/solutions while being facilitated by professionals.
Outreach and Recovery Panel
Local TLC Members, Support Groups, and BFRB activists share their stories and discuss the importance of outreach and creating resources. How to facilitate your own support group, how TLC can support you, and what other resources are available to you (including online resources).
